I cant fault the wireless signal or anything like that. its going on fleebay and i will buy another linksys. So much so if no one can shed any light here. change the machine ip in the router then machine ip to suit. having to be set as DHCP first to allow access to the router. Ive rang netgear tech support and got some info to configure the pcs with manual IP's something i found very weird.

Its so secure it wont allow me to manage it at all!!! I havent got windows own running and at the moment dont have a software firewall running *fresh install on a brand new built pc* Altho it seems this router is very secure. I have gone on - Free Help Setting up Your Router or Firewall and followed the instructions from there *something i never had to do with the linksys!* After probing certain ports with software and internet sites, it still hasnt forwarded the TCP and UDP ports i want open. The netgear i have found extremely hard to configure so far, apart from the wireless side of things to get both laptops on the internet. So its a step in the right direction with the netgear.
Main flaw was that it didnt have very good wireless encryption. The linksys i found was really easy and i forwarded ports for all the pcs/devices/playstation 3's etc and gave them all manual IP's so i could manage it properly. then plug it in the linksys modem to dial in. The linksys started to develop dial up problems where it would dial up only if i plugged my usb modem in to if you like "enable" the ADSL line first. After having some problems with my connection and my tired old Linksys HG200 i relutantly upgraded to a Netgear DG834G V5.
